Richards Packaging acquires DermapenWorld in $40m deal [June 25]

Richards Packaging Income Fund announced on 2 June 2025 that, through its subsidiaries, it had acquired all outstanding shares and assets of the Australia-based DermapenWorld Group of Companies. DermapenWorld develops microneedling devices and dermatological cosmetics and operates internationally. [1]

The announced purchase price was US$40 million, approximately C$55 million at the time, financed primarily through a new term credit facility alongside a vendor holdback. The agreement also included potential additional consideration linked to DermapenWorld’s earnings through 2025 and 2026. [1]

The transaction is particularly relevant because Richards was already DermapenWorld’s Canadian distributor before the acquisition. Rather than remaining simply a route to market, the distributor moved into ownership of the brand itself. [2]

The Harley View

This is a useful counterpoint to the InMode/Wigmore story.

InMode ultimately moved from a local joint venture towards full manufacturer ownership of its UK operation. Richards Packaging moved in the opposite direction — from distributor to brand owner.

Together, the transactions illustrate a wider strategic question in aesthetics: as businesses seek greater control of margin, customer access and international expansion, does the greater value sit in owning the product, owning the route to market — or both?
